America's kids are getting screwed

Until we improve the absolutely dismal state of sexual education in this country and elsewhere, we will make no real progress in abortion rights, fighting homophobia, or eliminating gender disparity in the workplace.

As Rep. Henry Waxman has found out, America's kids are getting screwed. His staff on the House Committee on Government Reform has just released a report detailing the astonishing falsehoods being taught to America's kids. They're being told lies about sex to appease the puritanical impulses of the religious right. And the kids who end up having sex anyway — without the benefit of education on safe sex — and contract STDs as a result? Screwed.
