Being that this is our first official announcement coming from our new
online Mailing List, I am sorry to say that it is unfortunately not a
happy one.

//—–((((( LURCH HAS PASSED AWAY )))))—–\\

This morning at about 2:30 AM, Lurch passed away from an apparent heart
attack. For those of you that have been around for several years, you
may recall the triple bypass surgery which caused him to miss IBR a few
years ago. His heart complications had continued, and most recently
his doctors were concerned about developing congestive heart failure.
Unfortunately, it progressed and ultimately, as of today, claimed his
life.

For those of you that are not familiar with who Lurch is, Lurch was the
founding President of BOSF, a founding member of the club and is one of
the original committee members responsible for starting IBR and molding
the beginnings of the IBR we know and love today. He was the President
for the first four years, continued to be active member of BOSF all
these years and was the MC for the Competition at IBR every year since –
except for the year he had his surgery. Lurch knew how to make people
laugh and loved doing so. He will be greatly missed and will leave a
void in the club that will never be filled again.

A memorial service is being planned. However, it is far too early to
have all of the information. We will keep you up to date as details are
established.

//—–((((( ANOTHER PIECE OF BAD NEWS )))))—–\\

The Sacramento Valley Bears President, Ralph Jacks, took a very bad
fall in Palm Springs over Thanksgiving Weekend while down there for Lazy
Bear Holidays. He apparently took a stroll on the mountain side around
Palm Springs, tripped on something, and fell down the mountain breaking
several bones.

I don't have much more information than that at the moment. Nothing
was posted on the SVB website. But I do know that the information is
creditable as I have received it from several sources including directly
from Harry Lit who had to make some arrangements for him. It sounds
like there might be something in the works to help him out. But, again,
I have not been given the information at this time. I will keep you
informed if something develops. For now, send good thoughts in the
direction of Sacramento.

//—–((((( THEY ALWAYS COME IN THREES )))))—–\\

Mr. International Bear 2004, Scott Hunter, was involved in a
hit-and-run accident on the 101 freeway in Los Angeles on November 6th. It was
an extremely serious accident and left Scott in intensive care for many
weeks. The accident was witnessed by the Highway Patrol, but there has
been no news on whether or not the suspect was ever found.

Scott is now back home and recovering, however he will not be returning
to work for many more weeks. As a result, the medical bills have grown
to an astronomical amount with no income to cover it.

Bears LA and the Gauntlet II are putting on a fund raiser to benefit
Scott Hunter. It must be noted that this is not an official non-profit
activity for Bears LA as the funds from a non-profit event cannot
benefit any one individual. With Scott being a board member of the club,
that is a definite no-no. This event is a for profit event, hosted by the
Gauntlett II bar and managed by Bears LA. All proceeds will go toward
Scott's medical bills.

The event will be on Sunday, December 18th during the Gauntlet's Beer
Bust. Obviously, most of us will not be able to attend since that is
down in LA. However, if you would like to donate, you can find our more
information or contact the bar or Bears LA via their websites:
www.Gauntletii.com or www.BearsLA.org.

Thanks,

Bear Hugs
