Tough Crowd 9/13

Gotta love Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. Last night, former “Kid in the Hall” Scott Thompson mentioned his preference for hairy guys last night on the show.

The evening's panel of pun-dits included Mark Marin of Air America Radio's “Morning Sedition” show and Sarah Silverman. Colin had assigned them each a popular magazine to review: Sarah got Catfancy, and Scott was assigned WWF Smackdown.. Clutching a copy of the glossy pop-cultic mag, Scott enthused over the musclebound god bods but complained that “I don't like that they all shave their bodies. I like the hairy guys — you know, I really like the bears. I even like some women, you know, with mustaches.”

When I called to alert my pal Mapbear of yesterday's ursine media event, he properly informed me that Colin, former SNLer and Comedy Central's late-night political yack-show host, a bit of a Irish furball himself, has been known to pork around with dudes, though not at all out about it. The bearish and bear-friendly Dave Atell from Insomniac also regularly appears on Tough Crowd.

Ron Jackson Suresha is an editor, anthologist, and writer. He is considered an authority on emergent queer masculinities, in particular the subcultures of gay and bi male Bears and of male bisexuality. For Ron's service to the bear community, he was named "Bear of the Year" 2008. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Suresha attended the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, 1976-8), where he studied creative writing, and Vista College (Berkeley, Cal., 1989-92), where he studied American Sign Language. He is also a licensed Justice of the Peace in Connecticut, an ordained minister, ULC, and a member of the New London Green Party. Nonfiction works include Bears on Bears: Interviews & Discussions; Bi Men: Coming Out (coeditor, with Pete Chvany); Bisexual Perspectives on the Life and Work of Alfred C. Kinsey (editor). His latest book is The Uncommon Sense of the Immortal Mullah Nasruddin: Stories, jests, and donkey tales of the beloved Persian folk hero, published by Lethe Press.
