Year-End Thanks to Bears Ocean State

Grrreetings, gentlebearz and bearloverz!

Thanks to everyone hanging with, around, in, and on Bears Ocean State. I hope this yahoogroup proves a rewarding experience for everyone, at least periodically. Everyone contributes in a small but great way – even the shyest guys. So if you're shy and like hanging with us, feel free to invite local pals to join you here at BOS and maybe get involved somehow.

This area is a great progressive community of men that I find incredibly attractive – the area, the community, and the guys! The BOS affiliation with and support from Gay & Bi Dads of New England has been great, and thanks and bearhugs go to Franq and all the woofy dadguys.

Personally, after being in Rhode Island now two-plus really crazy years, I have utterly fallen in love with the area. I still think Rhode Island might be the first state to forward-legislate gay marriage, and if you know me, you know how important living in an area where politically progressive/liberal/radical people can live and love freely. I even blog on Air America as RIRon.

I had some part-time work this month at Roy's shop The Christmas Bear in Bristol – if you missed the bear pride, leather pride, and rainbow pride holiday ornament balls this year, you gotta remember to get them next! I loved driving through that area, thinking of how I would love to buy a house in the area. So plans are still underway, but I hope after I get settled again with Rocco, I can devote more energy to organize local bearguys so that they could maybe more easily organize gatherings themselves around Bears Ocean State.

Oh well, dreams are in the making. So for next year we look forward to more comradely company with Bears & Dads & Cubs & Otters & Wolves & Sons & Everybear. Hippie hooligans and have a joyous, merry, queer, fun, safe year-end celebration!

Ron Jackson Suresha is an editor, anthologist, and writer. He is considered an authority on emergent queer masculinities, in particular the subcultures of gay and bi male Bears and of male bisexuality. For Ron's service to the bear community, he was named "Bear of the Year" 2008.
