Bear Soup #55: “Brief History of Bears”; Bear mag roundup; “Outrage”; Polar bears; Best of Bears nominations
Ron Suresha returns to the TaLL Show on July 1, 2009, to talk about the President’s reception for the GLBT community and the underrepresentation of the B and T in the national discourse.
Author, activist, and anthologist Ron Suresha returns to the show to talk about both being nominated and being a judge for the Lambda Literary Awards. Ron brings copies of the finalists in the Transgender category and talks about each book. Ron also reads the letter he wrote to the President, “Obama: Free the Gays.”
“If I had been asked, as a GLBTIQ activist, to name a national leader in the sexual minority civil rights movement, I would have named dozens of people, not one, because I believe that a movement needs many leaders, not just a lone figurehead.”
My “intriguing” reading on Bisexual Perspectives on Kinsey at the Bi Lines performance on Saturday evening was kindly mentioned by the handsome & charming Bilerico blogstar Father Tony.
Ron will be helping put the B in LGBT.
Ron reads the Sept. 2, 2006 article in the San Francisco Chronicle written by Wyatt Buchanan on the Hairrison Street Fair, “‘Bears’ come out to play at fair celebrating gay subculture” which mentions “Bear Soup” … Omigod!, and a short item on fashion designer Marc Jacobs’ new major ad campaign featuring two bearish men, makeup guru Dick Page and his husbear, James Gibbs, photographed by Juergen Teller. Backed by the vocal stylings of the bearish countertenor and international opera star, David Daniels.
